My Beowulf Essay
There were many similarities as well as differences between the text and the movie Beowulf. The overall theme was the same. However, a few of the differences I found was; Unferth pronounces him king in the book. Also, Grendel came to the party after in the book. Then, the swim with Breca and the sea monsters in the movie.
In the book Beowulf goes back home to Sweden to become king of the Geats, but in the film he is made king of Denmark. This was unusual, but he took the crown. He says that Beowulf should be king and hand him the crown in the film. Beowulf was brave, strong, and an honorable man. He cared for his people and defended them. That is why he is made king.
Next, Grendel came to Herot in the book. In the film, he came during. He was banned from this place, and the people didn't want him there. He was a big, hideous creature and vicious. His mother was also a angry lady and mean like him. Grendel was very fierce and dangerous.
The swim with Breca and the sea monsters was in the film. In the book, he didn't fight them at the swim. He failed to defend himself from Grendel, like the rest of the men and also loses the fight with the sea monsters. He tries to be a hero, but the reader and everyone else sees that he could never be a true hero. He was brave enough to fight the sea monsters to defend himself and the people, but he failed.
The differences between the book and film were a lot similar to each other. There were a lot of things the same, and a few differences. The differences I found in the book that was different from the film was; Unferth pronounces him king, Grendel came to the party after.
